Commonwealth Games Day

Commonwealth Games Day
On Friday 22nd of october we held a Commonwealth Games day for all of the children in years 0-8. All of these classes had been studying the Commonwealth Games and watching the sports in Dehli with interest. The day was organised by the students in year 7 & 8.

We were organised into 10 different countries, and we were evenly split across all of the year levels, so the groups ranged in age from 5 - 13 years. It was great to work in group with younger and older children.

The first task for each country was to design flags, mascots and emblems for our countries. We also had to create a chant about our country. We worked in classrooms all around the school and it was lots of fun.

Once we had completed all of our signage we headed out ready to compete in the various sports. Many of us had painted our faces, and we were also wearing our countries colours, so each team could be easily identified.

Team spirit was very high as we made our way down to the opening ceremony.

We all competed in a variety of activies, which included obstacle courses, 3-legged races, egg and spoon races, weightlifting, synchronised swimming, and many more. It was heaps of fun and everyone had a great time. Parents and siblings came along to watch.

It was a great day, and we now look forward to the Olympics in two years time!!!
