Clay pinch pots

Our latest clay experimentation involved creating 'pinch pots' whereby we were given a lemon-sized lump of clay which was cut in half. The first step was to take one half of the clay, push a thumb into the middle of the clay and then using our thumb on the inside and fingers on the outside, squeeze and manipulate the clay into a pinch pot (which could be any shape we desired). We could then use a variety of utensils/tools to decorate our pinch pots.

The next challenge was to create another pinch pot with either a lid or a handle. We learnt how to join clay effectively by roughing up the two edges and then smoothing them together to ensure a strong join.
