Farewell

Farewell Room 4 of 2010!!! :(

We are signing off now for the holidays and sadly will no longer be adding photos and information to this blog site. Hopefully your teacher next year will set you up with a new blog. However, the good news is that you can still come and look at the blog any time, check out the photos, read the stories, and access the websites through the links on the other pages.

REMEMBER that you can make comments too!

Thanks for being a super-special, awesome, fabulous class. We have both loved teaching you this year and look forward to watching your continued successes next year as Year 5's and 6's.

MERRY CHRISTMAS AND HAPPY HOLIDAYS.

Best wishes from Mrs May and Mrs O :)

P.S - Great news: we have had 1067 visits to our blog site since June this year. WOW!!!!!!!

Prizegiving

Last Thursday evening, our school prizegiving night was held. The Y0-10 students sang a variety of songs, including Kaiako, which was dedicated to Mrs Mac who is leaving LAS this year.

We were fortunate enough to have locally raised Raylee Bradfield as our special guest on prizegiving night. Raylee sang three of her own songs, which were very impressive. The audience was just spellbound, so thank you Raylee!

This is always a time to reflect on the achievements made throughout the year. All Room 4 students were presented with a certificated outlining achievements throughout the year. One student from each year group was awarded the Academic Achievement Award, while another was chosen as the Lawrence Lions Evans Bequest for Diligence throughout the year.

It was a very difficult job for the Room 4 teachers this year as many children stood out for various reasons, but we did have great pleasure in awarding the Academic achievement awards to Caine Ritchie in Year 4 for his outstanding achievements in Mathematics, and to Melissa Gray in Year 5 for academic achievement in all subjects. The Evans Bequest for Diligence was thoroughly deserved by Lisa Young (Year 4) and Brittany Morrison (Year 5).

In addition to these awards, some other Room 4 students were awarded school trophies, which was super exciting. Caine Ritchie won the award for Water Confidence, Keegan Tunnage was presented with the Junior Speech cup and Finn Sillibourne won the Junior Athletics trophy this year.

HUGE CONGRATULATIONS to all of those students who received special awards on prizegiving night.

Xmas Assembly

Junior School Xmas Assembly
On Thursday 2nd of December the Junior School presented a special Xmas assembly and invited along all of our parents, grandparents and friends of the school. Mr Auld began the assembly with the presentation of some very special citizenship awards. There was one person presented an award from each class for having lovely manners and for being an all-round good citizen.

We were really proud of the person who got the award from room 4 as she truly deserved this award.
Congratulations to Amy Eason!!!!!!!

Then Britanny played her Trombone for us - giving a lovely rendition of

'God Defend New Zealand'
Dawn played a lovely version of the 'Indian Drums'

Melissa played a beautiful rendition of 'Uptown Girl'
'A Kiwi Night Before Christmas'
Room 4 - Class Item
Caine introduces our class item.

T'was the night before Christmas, and all round the bach,
Not a possum was stirring; not one we could catch.
We'd left on the table a meat pie and beer,
In hopes that Santa Claus soon would be here.

We children were snuggled up in our bunk beds,

While dreams of pavlova danced in our heads.

And Mum in her nightie, and Dad in shorts,
Had just settled down to watch TV sports.

When outside the bach such a hoo-ha arose,

I woke up at once from my wonderful doze.

I ran straight to the sliding door, looking about,
Jumped out on the deck and let out a shout!
The fairy lights Dad had strung up round the door,
Let me see everything down to the shore.
And what did I see, when I took a peep?
But a miniature tractor and eight tiny sheep. With a little old driver, his dog on his knee.
I knew at once who this joker might be.
He patted his dog, and in a voice not unkind,
cried, "Good on ya, boy! Now, GIT IN BEHIND!

Now, Flossy! now, Fluffy!, now, Shaun and Shane!
On, Bossy! on, Buffy! on, Jason and Wayne!

Up that red tree, to the top of the bach!
But mind you don't trample the vegetable patch."
So up to the roof those sheep quickly flew,
with the tractor of toys, Santa and his dog too.
As my sister awoke and I turned around,
In through the window he came with a bound.
He wore a black singlet and little white shorts,
and stuck to his feet were gumboots, of course;
A sackful of toys he had flung on his back,
and he looked like a postie just opening his pack.
His eyes - bright as paua shell - oh, how they twinkled!
Like an old Tuatara, his skin was all wrinkled!

He had a wide face and a round, fat tummy,
That looked like he'd eaten lots that was yummy.

He spoke not a word, but got down on one knee,
And placed a cricket set under the tree,
A present for Sis, one for Dad, one for Mum,
Then he turned and he winked and he held up his thumb;
He jumped on his tractor, to his dog gave a whistle,
And away they all flew, as fast as a missile.
I called out "Thanks," as he flew passed the gate,
He called back:

"Kia ora to all, and good on ya, mate!"
Dawn presented a solo dance performance to "I like to move it, move it"

The whole junior school came together to sing some Christmas Carols as a finale to the concert, before we went outside to enjoy a yummy picnic lunch with our families.

Mrs O'Connell presented the 'Shining Star' Award for the final time in 2010. The recipient was someone who always gives everything her very best effort, someone who takes a lot of care in the presentation in all her work, and someone who will be dearly missed at Lawrence Area School.

The shining star award was presented to Mrs McNamara!! Congratulations Mrs Mac!

Camp Food

Camp Food
The food on camp was nothing short of INCREDIBLE. Many of us wrote about our food as being a highlight of the day.
Adele was our camp cook, and with the help of parents she was able to create marvels in the camp kitchen.

Dessert was always a real treat. Time and effort went into crafting something truly special!!!!

The kitchen queen whipped up home made donuts with pink icing, and pikelets with jam and cream. Nothing was a bother and everything was delicious.
We can not thank Adele enough for her amazing efforts in the kitchen!!!

YUMMO!!!!!!!!!

Hydro-Sliding Moana Pool - Last Day

Unfortunately Friday came around way too quickly for some of us. After a MASSIVE camp clean up in the morning, it was time to pack all of our gear into vehicles and head towards home. We had one final stop on our way, which was to Moana Pool in Dunedin for an hour and a half of swimming and hydrosliding. And what fun we all had. Check out the action!

To end with..... a HUGE THANK YOU to all of the parents who helped out on camp. It would be impossible to provide the students with a camp experience if it wasn't for you - thank you for the transport assistance, supervision of students, washing of dishes, preparing and serving of meals, disposing of rubbish, washing and drying of tea-towels, fire stoking, helping with camp concert items ..... EVERYTHING.
From all of us in Room 4 THANK YOU SO MUCH!!!!!!!
